MANCHESTER, Mass. — The man accused of shooting two New Hampshire officers will be held without bail pending a probable cause hearing.

The suspect, 32-year-old Ian MacPherson, is accused of shooting two officers in Manchester early Friday morning. Though MacPherson was seen entering the courthouse Monday morning, he waived his right to be in the courtroom during his arraignment on capital attempted murder charges.

MacPherson entered a non-guilty plea.

BACKGROUND OF THE CASE

According to police, Officer Ryan Hardy was shot in the face and torso when he approached MacPherson, who was suspected of being involved in a robbery in Manchester earlier that morning.

After being shot, Officer Hardy was able to give a description of the suspect to other officers. MacPherson was spotted about a half hour later at Putnam and Dubuque Street.

Police said MacPherson opened fire again when spotted by officers. Officer Matthew O'Connor was shot in the leg.

Family members described MacPherson as mentally ill and homeless.

O'Connor, 28,  was released from the hospital Friday and Hardy, 27, was released Saturday evening.

Manchester Police said the officers were doing well and were appreciative of the community's support.
