Wareham, Mass. — An off-duty officer helped catch a man who allegedly stole a TV from a Wareham Walmart.
Police said on Friday around 10 a.m. they received a report of shoplifting in progress at the Walmart. The caller said a man was pushing a shopping cart out of the store with a stolen TV.
According to Wareham Police, two officers arrived at the scene and soon received information that off-duty officer, Arron Pacheco, may have come across the suspect in a different shopping plaza.
Officer Pacheco was shopping at Lowe's dressed in plain clothes when he spotted something suspicious.
Police said he noticed a man pushing a cart with a TV marked with a Walmart clearance tag, nervously asking customers for a ride.
In an effort to confirm the TV was in fact stolen, Pacheco offered the man a ride.
As he continued to monitor the man, Pacheco called Walmart and confirmed the description of both the suspect and TV, said police.
Soon after, other officers arrived outside Lowe's and took the suspect, Scott A. Mixon of New Bedford, into custody, said police.
Mixon was taken to Wareham Police headquarters for processing and later transported to Wareham District Court to be charged with his third shoplifting offense.
