NEW YORK — A New York City Firefighter has died in the line of duty.
FDNY tweeted a photo of firefighter Steven Pollard Monday morning. He worked for a ladder company in Brooklyn.
Officials say he responded to a two-car crash along a highway bridge around 11 p.m. Sunday night.
When he went to help the victims, he "slipped through a gap in the road" and fell to the ground more than 50 feet below.
Mayor Bill De Blasio says the loss is especially devastating because Pollard comes from a family of firefighters.
