BOSTON (AP) - A new political action committee has formed to support Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown.
Alicia Preston, a spokeswoman for the group America 360, says the PAC wants to "level the playing field" with outside groups working to elect Brown's Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren.
Preston said the group will focus on social media, website videos and mailers sent to voters' homes to drive home the message of what the group calls Brown's "independent and effective leadership."
Preston said the group won't break the pledge Brown and Warren signed barring outside groups from buying television, radio and Internet ads in the hotly contested race.
The group - which has already spent more than $197,000 on political mailers - will also highlight what it calls Warren's "disturbing pattern of not being wholly honest."
One of those outside groups seeking to defeat Brown is the League of Conservation Voters.
On Wednesday, the group plans to announce what it's calling "a new substantial independent expenditure" in the Senate race.
Jeff Gohringer, a spokesman for the League of Conservation Voters, said the group has already spent about half a million dollars in the campaign, but is also respecting the so-called "People's Pledge."
Most of the money has paid for dozens of canvassers going door-to-door talking with voters and leaving flyers.
One of the flyers accuses Brown of "selling us out to Big Oil."
Several other outside groups have weighed in with mailers, including the conservative Americans for Tax Reform and another group associated with Emily's List, which is dedicated to electing Democratic women who support legal abortion rights.
