Nearly 300 passengers given glow sticks to see after train breaks down

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- An Acela train headed to Massachusetts broke down on the tracks Thursday night and lost power.

At about 6:25 p.m., an Acela Express, Amtrak #2164, train that was traveling from Penn Station to South Station in Boston became disabled east of Mystic, Conn. The train also lost power.

There were about 299 passengers aboard, who were given glow sticks to see. The power issue was due to the overhead power systems, and likely weather-related, according to Amtrak Media Relations.

They attempted to bring in a second train to transfer the passengers, but that train also lost power. Eventually, a rescue train did reach the passengers in order to get them to Boston.
