NEEDHAM, Mass. — A multi-alarm fire broke out at a home at 94 Brookside Road in Needham on Saturday, according to the town's fire department, destroying the house in the process.
The blaze rose to five alarms by 5:00 p.m. and prompted responses from both the Needham and Newton fire departments.
The family who lived in the home was out of town when the fire started, firefighters say. Neighbors say the family was into art and music, with their home full of artwork and instruments.
According to the official Needham Fire twitter account, the blaze, which originally began outside, spread to the house due to explosions from what firefighters believe were either propane or aerosol cans.
The fire began with some trash located outside the home.

The fire spread from the building to the marshland behind the property around 4:37 p.m., rising to a five-alarm blaze. Wind was an issue for firefighters as their focus shifted to containing the blaze in the nearby marsh.
No other houses were touched by the fire, despite its spread to the brush.
One firefighter was treated on scene for a minor eye injury, according to the Needham Fire Chief Dennis Condon.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
