Injured motorcyclist who crawled up 40' embankment has long road to recovery

STERLING, Mass. — A father of two young daughters has a long road to recovery ahead of him after he lost control of his motorcycle and fell 40 feet down an embankment.

Shawn “Bundy” Lowe said a deer jumped out of the woods and came toward him as he was riding on Redemption Rock Trail, near Crowley Road, the evening of August 26. The 49-year-old from Leominster swerved around the deer and lost control of his bike, crashing down the embankment and rolling over multiple times.

After regaining consciousness, he crawled his way to the road and flagged down help. An off-duty EMT stopped and called 911.

Paramedics rushed him to UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester.

Lowe has already undergone surgery on his leg. He has multiple face fractures, broken ribs and a broken wrist. He needs additional surgeries, followed by physical therapy.

Lowe will be out of work for more than six months and not have any income. During his recovery, he’ll also need to find a new home because his current living arrangements have too many stairs for him to climb.

The motorcycle, a 2006 Harley Davidson, was destroyed.
