More NH patients linked to meningitis outbreak

The New Hampshire Department of Public Health said two more people have been diagnosed with fungal meningitis in connection with an outbreak believed to have originated at the New England Compounding Center in Framingham.

In total, six New Hampshire residents have been diagnosed with meningitis.

More than 200 people have been diagnosed and 15 people have died in connection with the outbreak in the United States.

The outbreak is related to steroid shots used for pain management made by the Massachusetts specialty pharmacy.

Public health officials said this particular form of meningitis can't be transmitted from person to person. Symptoms include headache, fever, nausea, stiff neck and sensitivity to light.

NECC has recalled all products it has produced since January 2012.

The company, which was founded in 1988, is owned by brothers-in-law Barry Cadden and Gregory Conigliaro. It produces custom-mixed solutions, creams and other medications in dosages and forms that aren't typically available from traditional pharmaceutical companies.
