MBTA Wi-Fi project will not move forward

The MBTA has announced the current proposal of a Wi-Fi expansion for the Commuter Rail will not be advanced. This comes about a month after the MBTA announced it would be conducting a 30-day assessment of the project after receiving much public opposition.

The project planned to install approximately 320 seventy-foot monopoles along the routes to boost wireless internet connection within the trains.

MBTA says the proposal, in its current state, is not consistent with the license agreement. MBTA also cited concerns from the public, as well as federal and state legislators, on how the project would impact “historic sites and community character.”

BAI Communications can submit a new proposal to MBTA.
