PLYMPTON, Mass. — Plympton’s firefighters helped make sure the veterans buried in town’s cemeteries weren’t forgotten this Memorial Day.

The town decided to postpone this year’s Memorial Day commemoration and parade because of the pandemic.

Briggette Martins, secretary to the town’s selectmen, stepped up on her own and got ahold of dozens of American flags. She then reached out to the fire department for assistance in placing the flags at all of the veteran gravestones in town.

The town is planning to honor veterans and service members on Veteran’s Day.

“The tone went out as if there was a box alarm with an explanation of what was happening and without hesitation, in less than an hour, we had an entire crew come in, off duty, on their time to honor our veterans that are buried in the local cemeteries appropriately,” Plympton Fire Chief Steve Silva told Boston 25 News.

Members of the town’s Memorial Day Committee also decorated the Town Green and Town House with flowers and placed wreaths at the three designated memorials.
