Mass. woman recovering at local hospital thanks to motorcycle club

ATHOL, Mass. — A horrific accident left a Milford woman hundreds of miles from home with no way of getting back. Thankfully, the woman was able to make her way home, and her father says he is incredibly grateful to those who helped his daughter.

It was Nov. 4 when Massachusetts native Shevonne Legere was thrown from her motorcycle while riding in Florida.

The accident was so severe, it left her in critical condition, her father, Shawn Cameron, said.

“I wasn't sure what the outcome would be and had no way of getting her home,” he said.

But that changed, thanks to people in a motorcycle group with Cameron. Many of the members are EMTs and firefighters.

Cameron shared with them what was happening and, before he knew it, they had come up with a plan to make a 1,200-mile drive to get her and bring her back to a rehab hospital in Athol.

"All the family, that has really, really helped because she gets to see the family on a regular basis now,” Cameron said.

The friends who made this happen donated an ambulance, their time and their support.

"These guys are the best.  Brothers of mine, true and true. Proved that they will go beyond the tour of duty, whatever it takes to bring somebody home...I just can't say enough about them and I just thank the Good Lord that they're in my life and forever they'll be my brothers," Cameron added.

We're told Shevonne isn't speaking yet, but she is able to write.

Her dad says it will be a long road to recovery, but at least that journey is happening here at home.
