Mass. man dies in snowmobile crash in Maine

MADRID, MAINE — A 34-year-old man was killed in a snowmobiling accident Friday night in Maine, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

At 10:30 p.m., Ryan Ducharme, of Spencer, Massachusetts, was riding with three others on a trail to his camp in Madrid, Maine, the news release said. Ducharme was last in the group, but his brother noticed that he wasn’t behind them anymore.

When Ducharme’s brother turned around in his snowmobile to search for Ryan, he found his snowmobile crashed into a tree and Ryan unresponsive. He called 911 and when EMS arrived, they pronounced him dead on scene.

An initial investigation shows that Ducharme was driving too fast for the trail conditions when he drove off the trail. He was wearing a helmet and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the release said.
