Mass. lawmakers to see pay raises after overriding veto

BOSTON — Massachusetts lawmakers have overridden a veto from Gov. Charlie Baker and given themselves pay raises.

The pay raises are worth a total of about $18 million per year, with some congressional leaders seeing salary increases of nearly 40 percent.

On Thursday, Baker called the bill a “very rich package” and said that there needed to be more exposure and time to figure out how to pay for it.

The annual salary for House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Stan Rosenberg, both Democrats, will climb about $45,000 to more than $142,000 a year.

For Baker, the bill would raise in his annual salary from $151,800 to $185,000, although he said he will not be accepting the raise.
