BOSTON (AP) - State lawmakers have moved to bar the sale of medical marijuana that's packaged to resemble candy.
The measure was approved by the House on Tuesday night during state budget debate.
Republican Rep. Peter Durant of Spencer showed photos of what he said were marijuana treats packaged to resemble candy bars - a "Munchy Way" for example - and potentially marketed toward children.
The House eventually approved a revised amendment calling on the state Department of Public Health to develop regulations to prohibit sale of any marijuana product in packages that resemble "commercially available candy."
Supporters of the proposed ban recalled the old Joe Camel cartoon ads that critics once said were enticing children to smoke cigarettes.
Voters last November approved the use of marijuana for certain medical conditions.
