Mass. health officials announce 11th human case of West Nile virus

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has reported an eleventh human case of West Nile virus in the state this year.

The most recent case was a person in their 30s from Suffolk County. Information on whether they were hospitalized was not immediately available.

The risk for West Nile virus is high in Arlington, Boston, Belmont, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Lynn, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Newton, Revere, Saugus, Somerville, Watertown and Winthrop. Every other city and town has a moderate risk level.

More than 500 mosquito samples taken across the state have tested positive for the virus.
