MANSFIELD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Two days in a row, police responded to two burglaries. The latest victim is a widowed mother of two, who works two jobs to support herself. Thieves stole the only memories she had from her late husband.
Anita, the 66 year old woman whose house was robbed, came home to police surrounding her home.
"I came home and they had cruisers all over," she said.
"Anita" who only wanted to use her first name, says burglars busted in through her back door. Thieves stole precious jewelry.
"My husband gave it to me, it's the memories part," she said.
The suspects ransacked her bedroom.
It happened Monday afternoon near Ware and Branch streets in Mansfield.
"This kind of stuff doesn't happen around here, it is a quiet sleepy area," said Anita's neighbor Brad.
Handicapped neighbors across the way tried to help police, but were frightened.
"They are both handicapped," Brad said. "It was very traumatic for them.
Thousands of dollars worth of goods were stolen from Anita.
"I have emeralds and diamonds pearls, topaz," she said.
Anita says she will not allow the burglars to take away her sense of security.
"Those guys that break in here, they cannot defeat me," she said. "I'm going to stay at my house."
Investigators say the suspects knock on a home's front door. If someone comes to the front door, they will say something like, "We are here to rake your leaves" or something similar.
The suspects are known to escape away in a dark colored sedan, and maybe responsible for burglaries in Foxborough as well.
