South End aggravated assault suspect in Boston Police custody

BOSTON — Boston Police have made an arrest in connection to an assault and battery in the South End over the weekend.

Boston Police say on Sunday evening just before 5 p.m., a woman was "violently restrained" by a man in the area of 460 Harrison Avenue.

The woman was able to get free and call for help. The suspect then ran off on foot. He was last seen running toward Albany Street where he jumped over a fence into the courtyard area of the Pine Street Inn.

On Monday morning, Boston Police identified and arrested the suspect on Mass. Ave. He has been identified as 34-year-old Michael Powers.

He is charged with aggravated assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, and assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

Police say Powers was also wanted on several outstanding warrants on various charges including larceny over $250, possession of Class A drugs, breaking and entering, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, larceny from the person, destruction of property, and trespassing.
