IPSWICH, Mass. — A 21-year-old man suspected of drugged driving is now facing charges after crashinig a Mini Cooper into an Ipswich home.

Police said Nick Pappas of Ipswich crashed into the lower level of the home after hitting a mailbox and driving over the front lawn.

Pappas was trapped inside the car when police arrived. Responding officers removed Pappas from the car. He was sent to Beverly Hospital with minor injuries.

Efforts to reach Pappas or a member of his family for comment on Tuesday were unsuccessful.

No serious injuries were reported.

Emergency crews responded to Broadway Avenue at 11:38 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a car into a house.

Homeowner Kristine MacKinley told Boston 25 News that she was cooking when she heard a loud "Boom."

"I just felt the house shake and then my dog started barking," MacKinley said. "I looked out front and saw the mailbox was gone."

"When I looked out the window, I saw the tire marks on the lawn," she said. "So then I ran out and then I saw the gentleman. He wasn’t responsive. So I tried to open the door to help him, but then I couldn’t get the door open."

Peter Nikolakopolous, owner of Pomodori Pizza, said Pappas has been working for him for a couple of years and the incident is a "complete shock."

The red Mini Cooper crashed into the lower level garage of her single-family home, and snapped the foundation off and took the wall out. The car, which tore through yellow vinyl siding, became lodged inside the home, and struck children's bicycles and toys and a side door.

"Fortunately, nothing else, and everyone’s okay," MacKinley said. "My kids play out here all the time, so it's scary."

Ipswich Police Chief Paul Nikas said Pappas was charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, driving to endanger, possessing a Class C substance, speeding greater than reasonable, and stop sign violation.

The Ipswich Fire Department and building inspector also responded to the scene, and the building was deemed structurally sound by the building inspector.
