CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A man was stabbed in Cambridge on Sunday night after confronting a group of teenagers and asking them to stop jumping on the roofs and hoods of parked cars.

Neighbors say they’re shaken up after hearing what happened. Nick Weigel, who lives in the area, says he saw the teens leaping up into the air and purposefully throwing their weight down on top of the cars, causing some damage.

Weigel called 911, but says he thought about intervening and telling the kids to stop. However, after hearing about what happened to the man who confronted them, he says he’s glad he kept his distance.

“I heard some banging noises across the street," said Weigel. “Jumping up and down as hard as they could, just kind of stomping.”

According to police, the kids were jumping up and down and banging their bodies against parked cars along Hingham Street in Cambridge early in the evening.

Weigel says that, an hour after he called 911, he got word that a driver passing by had tried to put a stop to what the kids were doing, but was slashed on the arm in response.

“I called 911, I didn’t go near them,” said Weigel. “I’m glad I didn’t approach them, it’s something I thought about doing.”

By the time police arrived at the scene, the suspects had already dispersed, officials say.

“It’s scary to think one the kids were jumping on the cars but also that whoever tried to have them to stop, the fact that they were stabbed is awful,” said Rose Aditi, a Cambridge resident. “I often walk around by myself even at night, so not something I would expect.”

The victim is expected to be okay, police said.

No arrests have been made thus far, but the investigation remains active.
