Man found fatally stabbed in South Boston park

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Yellow crime scene tape surrounds the area where a jogger came across a gruesome find early Friday morning.

The victim of a fatal stab wound was found just before 7 a.m. in a playground at South Boston's popular Joe Moakley park. Police say a trail of blood spanned the park and the victim was a middle aged man.

"They found a male in his 40's suffering from stab wounds to the torso. The victim succumbed to those wounds," Boston Police Superintendent Bernard O'Rourke said.

The news was disturbing to people who visit the park everyday.

"That is scary because this is some place I come often to relax," Dorchester resident Paula Moura said.

It's unclear exactly where the attack happened or when, but during the investigation a shirtless man suddenly came across the cordoned off area of the park and walked right into the crime scene. He was yelling at police to "get away from me." He then took a swing at officers who were forced to take him down. Police say he refused to leave the area and had nothing to do with the stabbing.

Police continued their investigation and want to pinpoint where the stabbing happened.

"We are trying to determine that right now. There is some blood trail through the park so we are trying to determine now where the incident occurred," O'Rourke said.

Crime scene investigators spent the morning collecting evidence on both sides of the park but by late morning they started to focus on the side where the hockey rink is located. Crime scene markers were placed around the rink and even on a shopping cart inside. A chair was also removed.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating the suspect.

"It is a very busy park. A lot of people do early morning exercises, there are people that walk. So anybody who saw anything, please we could use your help," O'Rourke said.
