BOSTON — A Charlestown man convicted of first-degree murder for the shooting death of 17-year-old Ryan Morrissey in 2014 was sentenced to life in prison.
Julio Baez, 26, was convicted of first-degree murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury on Feb 15.

The two other men involved in the shooting, Alexander Soto, and Danilo Soto, were also facing first-degree murder and armed assault with attempt to murder charges, but both were acquitted of the charges.
Ryan Morrissey, who was 17, was at the A1 Convenience Store in November of 2014 when the three men allegedly mistook him for someone else and shot him in the chest. The men also shot at Morrissey's 19-year-old friend Jamie Lawton.
In court on Jan. 24, prosecutors say Baez planned the crime and drove the getaway car and Alex Soto and Danilo Soto, who are not related, were the shooters.
Throughout the trial, prosecutors brought evidence that the three men "undertook a joint venture to commit the shooting," according to the DA.

The evidence showed Baez knew about the fatal shooting plan, but prosecutors say witnesses - who could have provided critical testimony - opted to lie or remain silent.
In court on Feb. 16, Ryan Morrissey's parents gave victim impact statements saying Nov. 5, 2014 was the start of a long nightmare. They say their son wanted to join the service and then become a Boston firefighter.
Since Morrissey's death, his father says numerous scholarships have raised more than $250,000 in his son's name, helping kids achieve academic success.
