Man charged with 6th OUI after alleged hit and run in Auburn

AUBURN, Mass. — Police in Auburn arrested a man for allegedly driving drunk for the sixth time after he fled a crash.

Police say a car was rear-ended at the intersection of Route 20 and Millbury Street around 5 p.m. Sunday.

“I went to look up and I saw the screeching of tires, all the sudden we flew forward smacked right into the back of us,” Jeremy Abraham said.

Abraham and his girlfriend were out celebrating Valentine's Day when the crash happened.

“It wasn't worse, I just happen to be around everyone was all right. He could've killed someone,” Abraham said.

A search of the area turned up a black pickup truck at a nearby industrial park that police say Tatro was driving.

According to police, 41-year-old Tatro of Worcester was highly intoxicated when he was taken into custody.

Tatro has five previous convictions for OUI and had his driver’s license suspended.

During booking Tatro told police that he had been properly licensed for 15 years and intended to keep driving because “he didn’t care.”

Tatro is set to appear in court Tuesday morning on charges of OUI-liquor 6th offense, operating with a suspended license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
