LYNNFIELD, Mass. — A Wakefield man has been charged in connection to a rollover crash that knocked down telephone poles and wires along Route 1 southbound.
State Police troopers responded to a crash on Salem Street in Lynnfield at around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. At the scene, officials found a Ford Mustang had rolled over and struck the poles after crashing with a Toyota SUV.
Wires were knocked down on both sides of Route 1 and the mustang needed to be towed from the scene due to the amount of damage the vehicle sustained. The driver sustained minor injuries while the driver of the SUV was not injured.
Police say they still aren’t sure of how involved the SUV was in the crash and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Both sides of Route 1 were closed for cleanup and will continue to be closed for an extended period of time.
The driver of the mustang, identified only as a 40-year-old man, has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation. He has also been issued a criminal summons.
Lynnfield firefighters, EMS, police, department of transportation officials and an electric company assisted State Police in the response.
