A 26-year-old man was arrested after allegedly holding a Northeastern University student at gunpoint at an apartment near Fenway Park, police say.

Investigators say Lynn native Luis Rijo, identified in court documents as the victim's ex-boyfriend, allegedly held a 21-year-old woman at gunpoint on Friday night.

During the incident, Rijo reportedly told the woman he was going to kill her and himself.

"It certainly was a situation where anything could've happened at any second," Christopher said. "I heard the terrified sound of the woman next door yelling, 'Please don't kill me.' She was clearly terrified for her life, sobbing and screaming."

A neighbor named Christopher called 911 in the incident after hearing the woman begging for her life in the apartment building, and said he knew the situation could turn into a tragedy at any moment.

Christopher said he was watching TV with his partner when he heard what was happening on the other side of the wall, and then called police.

"You're listening to what's going on, and you're just praying nothing happens," Christopher said.

Boston Police responded to the incident in less than 10 minutes, and court documents said officers could hear the victim reportedly screaming for help before they kicked in the locked door.

Officers allegedly found Rijo holding the young woman down on a recliner with a gun pointed at her head.

"I think it's crazy," Tenzin Sampheo, a neighbor at the building, said. "Something I would never expect to happen around here."

The neighborhood, full of students and young professionals, was alerted as police chased the suspect through a back alley before handcuffing him.

The victim told Boston 25 News that she was doing okay after the incident.

According to court documents, the victim had filed a restraining order against Rijo, who remains locked up after being arraigned in Roxbury District Court for charges including home invasion, assault with intent to murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
