Man allegedly kidnaps woman, sexually assaults her in a cornfield

SUTTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Officials say a man allegedly kidnapped a woman and brought her to a cornfield, where the victim said she was sexually assaulted and held against her will.

Police say a 30-year-old woman frantically called 911 at 1:15 a.m. on Friday, so hysterical that the emergency dispatcher could not successfully communicate with her.

The first officer arrived to a secluded wooded area on Town Farm Road, where he noticed an empty truck parked in a cornfield. As the officer entered the cornfield, he said a screaming woman came running out of the woods, charging at him and pleading for help. The victim said that she had been driven to the cornfield, assaulted, and held against her will by a man she only knew as "Ray." The woman said that the man had first picked her up in the Main Street area of Worcester.

A second officer arrived, and the two officials say they noticed the suspect attempting to flee the scene by concealing himself along a tree line. Raymond Grenier, 56, was ordered to the ground and arrested on charges of kidnapping and indecent assault and battery.

Police say that they are actively investigating three similar incidents that have occurred since June of this year. In all three cases, women were picked up in Worcester and brought to the same isolated area, where they say they were assaulted and left stranded in the woods. Future investigation may result in Grenier being additionally charged with these incidents.

Grenier is being held on $10,000 cash bail and was scheduled for arraignment on Monday morning.
