BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Dorchester man has been arrested after allegedly slashing a woman with a knife while trying to steal her purse in the Fenway neighborhood.
Police were called just after 2 a.m. for reports of a person screaming in the area of 137 Park Dr.
"Around two in the morning I was sleeping...my TV was on...and someone in the alley started screaming 'help,'" said Emanuel Roman.
When officers arrived they spoke with a woman who said she had been violently attacked by a man with a large knife.
The woman told officers she was walking in the rear alley of a building when she heard a person run up behind her. She said as she turned around she was attacked and pushed to the ground as a man tried to take her purse.
The suspect then pulled out a large knife and threatened to kill her, according to police.
The victim was able to fight back and hit the suspect several times before he fled.
Officers soon found a man matching the suspect’s description being chased by Northeastern Police and were able to stop and arrest him.
The suspect, Wayne Barber, 53, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to murder.
The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
