CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A Cambridge man has been arrested after allegedly secretly recording a roommate in her bedroom.

Teddy Browar-Jarus, 32, faces 26 counts of secretly recording an unsuspecting nude person, 11 counts of willful recording of oral communication, and one count of attempting to video record an unsuspecting person in a state of nudity.

In 2015, a former roommate of Browar-Jarus told police she awoke and heard an unfamiliar beeping sound coming from her bookshelf. When she approached the area she allegedly found a cell phone with its camera facing the bed and the name “Teddy” on the home screen.

During a search of Browar-Jarus’ bedroom, police said they found multiple recording devices, including a laptop with a hookup camera, and a camera that looks similar to a towel hook.

"It was a complete surprise to everybody upstairs. No one suspected anything like that," a former downstairs neighbor Jo Trigilio told FOX25.  "They found several cameras upstairs so everyone there was freaked out."

On the laptop, officers discovered dozens of videos of women in a state of undress, some in bathrooms, others engaged in sexual activity and several of female roommates in their own bedrooms, according to police.

The towel hook camera had allegedly been installed in bathrooms of two Somerville apartments to record women entering and exiting the shower.

Somerville police were able to identify 12 women in the videos who all said they had not given permission for the recording and did not know they were being recorded.

Browar-Jarus was released after his arraignment Friday and ordered not to contact or publicly identify the victims or witnesses. He is due to appear in court next month.
