Malden man convicted of buying guns to kill ex-wife's husband, public officials

CONCORD, N.H. — A Malden man was convicted Tuesday of buying guns he was going to use to kill several people, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

Edward McLarnon, 69, attempted to buy a pistol, silencer, semi-automatic rifle and two hand grenades from an undercover FBI agent, court records show. Police said he was planning to use the weapons to kill his ex-wife’s husband, a Boston federal judge and a former Massachusetts Attorney General.

McLarnon contacted the agent in October of 2015 to buy the guns for $700 in cash at a rest stop in Seabrook, New Hampshire.

He purchased a .22 caliber pistol and an AK-47-style semi-automatic rifle.

McLarnon was found guilty of receiving an unregistered silencer, receiving firearms with the intent to commit murder, receiving explosive materials and receiving an explosive with the intent to harm persons or property.

He faces up to 10 years in prison for each count.
