WORCESTER, Mass. — A woman was charged with an OUI after hitting a pedestrian in Worcester Sunday afternoon.
Police said the crash happened at 121 Cambridge St. around 4:20 p.m. Initial information indicated the victim, a 45-year-old Worcester man, was walking west down the street when he tried to cross and was hit by a 2017 Subuaru Outback.
The driver, 41-year-old Carmen Chavez from Lynn, stopped momentarily and then drove into a parking lot, said police.
As she got out of her car, she allegedly threw something underneath two nearby parked cars; police said they were whiskey nips.
As officers spoke with Chavez, they noticed her bloodshot and glassy eyes. Officers said they also detected a moderate smell of alcohol on her.
After initially denying it, Chavez allegedly admitted that she had been drinking "a little."
She allegedly failed all field sobriety test and was arrested and charged with operating under the influence resulting in serious injury, failure to yield to pedestrian in the roadway and negligent operation of a motor vehicle
The victim suffered serious injuries to his legs, arms and head; he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Chavez will be arraigned in Worcester District Court Monday.
