Lockdown at Lynn charter school lifted, student surrenders pellet gun

LYNN, Mass. — The lockdown previously placed on a Lynn charter school following reports of a possibly armed student has since been lifted.

On Friday morning, the KIPP Academy Lynn Charter School was placed on lockdown after reports that a student had brought a gun onto school grounds.

Police received a call at around 10 a.m., where initial reports claimed students had seen the gun at school on Friday.

The investigation revealed a gun was in fact not seen at school on Friday. The student who was alleged to have brought the gun to school admitted to bringing a pellet gun to the school over a week ago.

Students were interviewed and a Salem Police K-9 unit assisted in searching the school grounds.

Police then recovered the pellet gun from the student's home and lifted the lockdown.

No arrests have been made and no charges are being sought at this time.
