BOSTON – Travelers heading through Logan Airport may notice short wait times to get through security thanks to new efficient technology.
Starting Wednesday, passengers in Terminal C will notice automated conveyor belts, larger bins and automated diversion of suspicious bags.
“Previously if a bag 'alerted,’ what we call it if a bag had a suspect item and needed additional search, our officer would have to manually reach over and pull that bag out,” TSA agent Bob Allison said.
The goal is modest to start, but adds up to a huge amount when you consider the millions of travelers passing through checkpoints each day.
“If you can save a few seconds on every passenger... well that starts equating to minutes and hours,” Allison said.
Logan joins a growing list of busy U.S. airports to implement the new lanes. Automated lanes are already in operation at airports in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas and Los Angeles As well as at busy hubs in Miami, Minneapolis and Las Vegas.
