A fire tore through a 12 unit apartment building in Watertown on Friday morning, displacing more than 30 people.
Firefighters were called to the housing complex on Robert Ford Road after a fire broke out. Fire officials say the fire got up into the roofline and took off from there. Multiple towns came to assist.
Everyone inside the building got out safely.
Thirty-one people were living in 11 units in the building; the 12th unit was vacant.
“I heard a pop, I thought it was a gunshot and heard people screaming, looked out the back window and saw flames shooting through the roof,” said neighbor Teresa Dawson.
Fire investigators are working to pinpoint where the fire started. Work was being done on the building, but it’s unclear if that had anything to do with the fire.
