Volunteers on the Rose Kennedy Greenway assembled hundreds of care packages for military members overseas and veterans at home Sunday afternoon.

“Though most of us were not born for 9/11, just being here with the community and seeing how much effort and how much work they’re putting in it reminds us that no matter what tragedy happens, there’s always greatness that comes out of it,” said Project 351 volunteer Anika Teckchandani.

“It’s really a tribute to the spirit of the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund,” said Andrew McCawley, a representative for the New England Center and Home for Veterans.

“It was the worst day of my life,” said Syrakos. “So to turn a tragic thing into something positive, we volunteer our time.”

Dora Syrakos lost her son during 9/11. She told Boston 25 they have done their best to spread kindness since.
