MARION, Mass — A bear got a head start on Memorial Day weekend, cooling off in ocean waters and visiting the sights in Marion Thursday.

The black bear was spotted taking a dip near the docks in Buzzard’s Bay. Saltworks Marine shared footage from a witness, shocked at the sight of the creature confidently swimming in the sea.

“We are taking applications but this is at a different level. We will put him on the ladder company and give it a try,” wrote Marion Fire/EMS on Facebook.

It seems like the ocean was the bear’s first stop of the day.

Thursday morning, Marion Fire/EMS shared a photo of the black bear hanging out near one of the department’s trucks.

The bear was also spotted near Converse Road Wednesday.

“As with any wild animal of this size, please refrain from feeding it or approaching it. We also recommend that you keep pets indoors,” says Marion Fire/ EMS.
