Uber and Lyft: Masks are no longer required during trips

Ride-share companies Uber and Lyft say masks are no longer required, effective immediately, for people using their service.

“As of April 19, 2022, riders and drivers are not required to wear masks when using Uber,” according to a statement from Uber posted on its website. “However, the CDC still recommends wearing a mask if you have certain personal risk factors and/or high transmission levels in your area.”

Uber is urging its passengers to keep them handy, just in case.

“Remember: many people still feel safer wearing a mask because of personal or family health situations, so please be respectful of their preferences,” said Uber. “And if you ever feel uncomfortable, you can always cancel the trip.”

The changes come after a ruling from a federal judge in Florida.

Lyft, another popular ride-share service, announced its changes on Tuesday afternoon, after Uber.
