Two people struck, seriously injured along Route 28 in Bourne after car crash

BOURNE, Mass. — Two people were hit and seriously injured along Cape Cod Highway Monday night after a car swerved to avoid an accident, police say.

Emergency crews responded to Route 28 in Bourne just before 9 p.m. for reports of a person struck. Arriving officers found several cars involved and two people injured in the roadway, according to Bourne Police.

The duo, a 56-year-old man from Everett and a 31-year-old Bourne man were transported to a local hospital. Their injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening.

A preliminary investigation determined there was a motor vehicle crash that caused two cars to be disabled in the roadway. In an effort to avoid crashing into the disabled cars, officials say a 21-year-old woman from Centerville swerved and hit the two people who were out of their cars due to the first crash.

MacArthur Boulevard northbound remained closed from the Waterhouse Road turnaround to the south rotary during the investigation for four hours, according to police.

This incident remains under investigation by the Bourne Police Department and members of Cape Cod Law Enforcement Council’s Crash Reconstruction Team.

It is unclear if any charges will be filed at this time.
