NEWTON, Mass. — Crews are working to restore power in one Newton neighborhood after a truck crashed into a telephone pole, taking down several power lines Thursday afternoon.

Newton Police say they responded to the intersection of Langley Road and Braeland Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. for a single car crash involving a pole. Arriving officers found a large box truck took down not only the pole but numerous wires, which blocked off the road.

It is unknown if the driver of the car was injured.

Due to the downed lines, police say traffic lights in the area are currently out of service. Eversource crews are working to resolve the power issues for the evening commute, but in the meantime, portable stop signs have been deployed in the affected areas.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
