Wrong-way driver crash sends one person to hospital, closes traffic in Northborough

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — At least one person was seriously injured Wednesday night after a wrong-way crash ignited a car on the Northborough interstate.

According to officials, the crash happened around 9 p.m. near Exit 28 in Northborough. State police recieved reports of a wrong-way driver on I-290 Westbound.

Troopers were dispatched and found that the driver had crashed into another car near mile marker 29/

Video from a viewer sent to Boston 25 shows the car rolled over on its side, engulfed in flames.

“There are serious injuries, and at least one person has been transported to a local hospital,” state police wrote.

The crash is expected to shut down I-290 for at least several hours.

“Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area if possible,” MassDOT says.
