Suspect of 2023 shooting found guilty, sentenced to state prison

BOSTON — A jury has found the suspect in connection with 2023 shooting guilty of gun charges in court on Friday.

Machyus Battle, 19, of Cambridge was involved in a May 24 non-fatal shooting in Roxbury.

Battle is facing a slew of charges, including:

  • Assault with a dangerous weapon.
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
  • Unlawful possession of ammunition.
  • Possession of a firearm during a felony.
  • Carrying a firearm without a license.

“Firing bullets on a street near a playground on an early summer evening displays a recklessness that we as a society cannot and will not tolerate. I thank the jurors for recognizing the facts in this case and returning a guilty verdict. A state prison sentence is entirely appropriate given the dangerousness of this incident,” District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.

Battle is facing 4-5 years in state prison with 2 years of probation after release.
