BOSTON — Two people were taken to the hospital after the driver of an out-of-control van slammed into the side of a fuel truck early Monday morning.
The Boston Fire Department says at 3:30 a.m., a white van hit a gasoline truck that was offloading gas at an Akiki Oil station on Hyde Park Avenue, triggering a gas leak.
Two people in the van, the driver and a passenger, were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The impact of the crash, which was caught on home surveillance video, left the front of the van wedged under the tanker.
Authorities say the tanker was carrying 11,500 gallons of gasoline to the business, and the crash caused about 50-60 gallons of gas to leak onto the street.

Hazmat technicians will remain on scene to facilitate the cleanup efforts.
A Boston Fire Department spokesperson is crediting the driver of the fuel truck for his quick thinking.
“The truck driver of the gasoline truck was excellent,” Boston Fire Department spokesperson Brian Alkins said. “Once he got hit, he immediately went into action and offloaded, which it could’ve been a lot worse if he didn’t.”
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
