SHREWSBURY, Mass. — A large search continued Monday for a man reported missing in Lake Quinsigamond after authorities received reports of a possible drowning Sunday afternoon.
Officers were called to the area of Sunset Beach just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday after a 911 caller reported that a man was possibly drowning in the lake, according to the Shrewsbury Police Department.
Shrewsbury police officers responded by land and water, joined by crews from the Shrewsbury Fire Department and Worcester EMS. Initial responders were unable to locate the man.
Multiple agencies have since joined the search effort, including the Worcester Police Department, Worcester Fire District 7 Dive Team, District 14 Dive Team, Holden Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police.
Authorities said operations have involved shoreline searches, boats, dive teams, underwater drones, and aerial drones operated by Shrewsbury, Berlin, Grafton, and Westborough police.
As of Monday morning, the man had not been found, and search efforts remained ongoing.
Officials said there will continue to be a significant police and fire presence on Lake Quinsigamond, particularly in the area of Sunset Beach, while crews search for the missing man.
The Shrewsbury Police Department is asking recreational boaters to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to safely conduct their operations.
The investigation remains ongoing.
