Seaport splash: Cliff diving event coming back to Boston

BOSTON — Some daredevil diving is returning to Boston in June as the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series lands in the city.

The event was last held in the seaport area some nine years ago, drawing big crowds to the waterfront as men and women launched themselves off platforms at the Institute of Contemporary Art.

The 12 men competing in the event jump from a platform some nine stories in the air. The 12 women who are diving will launch from 70 feet. Divers hit the water at speeds of about 50 m.p.h, according to organizers.

The competition is being held on Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m.
