A ruptured gas line in Canton is forcing residents to be evacuated from their homes Thursday morning.
Homes on Spring Street have been evacuated after a 2-inch break was found in the gas line, according to the Canton Fire Department.
Drivers are asked to use Washington Street as a detour.
Fire officials say this is an active scene.
“This is an active emergency situation,” said Canton Fire Chief Jamie Meier. “Please avoid the area surrounding the intersection of Spring Lane and Chapman Street until we can ensure the area is safe.”
Around 10:30 am the Canton Firefighter’s union said that the gas leak was secured.
“We will have to enter each evacuated home with a gas meter and check for any gas levels before residents can return,” the union wrote on Facebook.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
