BOSTON — Boston Police are investigating after they say a woman was assaulted near Tufts Medical Center early Thursday morning.

A man approached the victim from behind and put his hands on her face as he tried to pull her into a nearby alleyway, according to police. She screamed and fought him, and he left on foot, police added.

The woman spotted a member of the Tufts Public Safety team, and Boston Police were notified. Both agencies are investigating the incident.

“I think it’s a bit surprising,” said Yvonne Otis, a student who is new to Boston and Tufts Medical Center.

The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident but declined medical attention on scene.

Tufts’ Director of Police & Public Safety sent out a campus alert reminding the Medical Center community members to remain alert, avoid distractions, and travel with others when possible. It is unclear if the victim was distracted before the incident happened.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call investigators at 617-343-4248.
