Police investigating fatal crash during Friday’s snowstorm

FREETOWN, Mass. — The heavy snow and bad travel conditions are believed to be factors in a Friday morning crash that killed one person, Massachusetts State Police said.

At 7:30 a.m. State troopers rushed to the scene of the crash on Route 140 northbound in the area of mile marker 10 in Freetown.

Police said they found a 2008 Toyota Tacoma that crashed into a tree.

Authorities identified the driver as Jason Saccocia, 45, of New Bedford. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and police said Saccocia was the sole occupant in the vehicle.

State police said the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
