PLYMOUTH, Mass. — A 54-year-old Plymouth man was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after police say he assaulted a resident, fired a gun inside a home, and fled into nearby woods.
According to police, officers responded to a home on Royal Street around 3:45 a.m. following reports of a disturbance involving a firearm.
Investigators say the suspect allegedly assaulted another resident before discharging a firearm inside the residence. He then fled the home and disappeared into the surrounding wooded area before officers arrived.
Responding officers quickly secured the residence, confirmed the suspect was no longer inside, and determined that no one had been injured during the incident.
Police established a perimeter around the area where the suspect was believed to have fled while additional resources responded to assist.
The Metro-LEC SWAT team officers located the suspect a short time later in the woods.
He was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect, identified only as a 54-year-old Plymouth resident, is expected to be arraigned later today in Plymouth District Court.
The incident remains under investigation.
