Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a person seriously injured on Wednesday.
Officers responded to the Harvard Street and Winchester Street intersection around 5:30 a.m. for the crash, according to police.
Police believe the person was walking in the crosswalk when they were struck by a dark-colored four-door sedan.
The person hit was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.
“We are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the crash or the vehicle involved to contact us. We are also asking residents and businesses in the area to review any available surveillance or doorbell camera footage that may have captured the vehicle traveling on Harvard Street or Winchester Street before or after the crash,” Medford police posted on social media.
Brandon Flores lives nearby and was woken up by the sound of the crash.
“Heard a loud noise kind of spooked me up. Heard a loud bang and thought nothing of it,” Flores said.
Flores is one of many people who walk or bike around the intersection every day. He says he makes sure to look both ways when going onto Harvard St.
Blake Bartko lives down the street from where police investigated Wednesday morning.
“It doesn’t feel safe over here. Cars go way too fast down the street,” Bartko said. “I walk across here all the time people honk at me people yell at me. Can’t ride your bike on this road, it’s disgusting. People are viscous out here.”
We saw a broken pedestrian crossing sign that was placed on the sidewalk. Neighbors say it’s supposed to be kept in the middle of Harvard St. but someone hit it recently and pushed it aside.
“Everyone is walking down this way. Tufts is right here. We have students living around here. I live with a bunch of students who have to cross this road to get to school. It’s like c’mon you have to have some type of pedestrian safety out here. There’s a lack of empathy out here. Especially with drivers around Boston, Medford, and Somerville.”
The wife of the man seriously injured in the crash did not want to speak on camera. She said she is well supported by her family and says her husband is trying to stay in good spirits.
