The Patriots are welcoming a familiar face back to Foxboro.
New England has reportedly agreed to terms with defensive lineman Trey Flowers, as first reported by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
Flowers, who turns 30 next month, won two Super Bowls with New England and was selected to the franchises’ All-2010′s Team. Flowers appeared in 55 games during his four seasons in Foxboro, totaling 203 tackles and 26.5 sacks.
None of Flowers’ sacks were more important than his season-saving play during Super Bowl LI. With under four minutes left and Atlanta already leading by 8 and squarely in field goal position, the former Arkansas Razorback bull rushed through the thick of Atlanta’s offensive line before unceremoniously tossing QB Matt Ryan 12 yards behind the line of scrimmage. The Falcons were forced to punt and Tom Brady did Tom Brady things, ensuring what should have been the finishing touches on Atlanta’s first championship instead became a highlight that will forever live in The Hall at Patriot Place.
Flowers sprung for Detroit on a five-year, $90 million contract in 2019 but severe injuries prematurely ended his 2020 and 2021 seasons. Flowers played four games for the Miami Dolphins before landing on season-ending injured reserve for the third straight year.
