BOSTON — An international pride and tradition filled Boston’s waterfront, as more than one thousand sailors and cadets from around the world marched through the city as part of this year’s Sail Boston.
Kickoff for the Sailors March was near Leader Bank Pavilion.
It was a chance for residents to meet crew members from the tall ships currently visiting Boston, while celebrating the city’s long-standing maritime history.
“All of the crew members from all the crews that were part of the parade of sails you get to see the ships now you can actually see all the sailors and the marines that are part of the crews on all of these ships as we walk here on the harbor front,” one of the sailors tells Boston 25 News.
Surrounding areas did see some delays. Major routes that were impacted included Seaport Boulevard and summer street, but it didn’t stop the party.
“Driving around the city coming from Charlestown to our crews, it took like 40 minutes to get back and forth as opposed to 15, there’s a lot of traffic, but the vibe is good people are having a good time, the weather is fantastic,” one paradegoer tells Boston 25 News.
