At Sunrise Labs in Bedford NH, just outside Manchester, incumbent Senator and former Governor Maggie Hassan makes a noontime campaign stop at this high tech company.
In seven days, voters will decide if Hassan will get second term.
And with polls suggesting a tight race, this is one of five campaign stops Hassan is making today, most of them with Jon Tester, the Democratic US Senator from Montana.
“We’ve always known this would be a really close race. you always need to make your case to Granite Staters. It’s one of the things I love about New Hampshire,” Senator Hassan said.
Maggie Hassan’s opponent is Republican Don Bolduc. Now this race is definitely tightening up, and we reached out to Bolduc’s campaign, but they did not make him available to us this afternoon.
Don Bolduc is a retired US Army brigadier general, running as an outsider against the incumbent Hassan.
The National Republican Party has identified this Senate race as potentially winnable, one that could shift the balance of power in the US Senate in favor of the GOP. That’s why the national party is spending millions on this race, you’ve likely seen the TV ads.
“She does whatever Washington wants I never will,” Bolduc says in one of his TV spots.
Senator Hassan’s campaign is firing back with its own ads, and on the campaign trail, she’s stressing the issues that set her apart from Bolduc.
“My opponent has advocated for eliminating social security, his record makes clear he would be a yes vote for a nationwide abortion ban. And he’s an election denier and that’s just way out of step for New Hampshire,” Senator Hassan said.
